Karen McDiarmid joined the Meyer Board of Directors in 2012 and served on the Building Committee along with the Capital Campaign Cabinet. She has enjoyed a continuing relationship with the arts in the greater Green Bay area since graduating from St. Norbert College in 1975. Once a Music and English teacher at Xavier High School in Appleton, Karen sang professionally with Dudley Birder’s New Company Revue until becoming the television and radio spokesperson for Shopko Stores, Inc., a position she enjoyed for 20 years. A popular commercial actress, keynote speaker, emcee, and guest performer, she is remembered for her numerous lead roles in SNC Music Theater productions. Karen especially values the 15 years of serving as co-host for both the local Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and The Cerebral Palsy, Inc. Telethon of Northeastern Wisconsin.
Karen returned to St. Norbert College in 1995 and enjoyed 2 years as Director of Alumni and Parent Relations. She now serves on the College’s Board of Trustees. Her other affiliations include membership in Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). She is a past board member of The Milwaukee Repertory Theater, the Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield, WI, and the Green Bay Boy Choir.
Karen lives in De Pere and is married to Jim Montgomery. She has one grown son, Evan Pivonka, who resides in Charlottesville, VA with his wife, Ashleigh.
